It was amended on Tuesday 17 November to change the headline after a source within SOAS students’ union denied the students’ union “no platformed” Mona Eltahawy. The original article was headlined “SOAS ‘no platforms’ world-renowned Egyptian speaker Mona Eltahawy” after the speaker herself complained on social media she was prevented from speaking because some students may have found her views offensive. The students’ union was contacted before the article was published for its version of events.

  • We ran an article on 6 November on the government’s higher education green paper. It was amended on Monday 9 November to remove a quote purported to be from the Department for BIS. The original story stated that when asked how students would react to the news their fees may rise, a spokesperson for the department said: “You would need to ask students how they’d react. We can’t comment on that.” At the time the question was asked it was not made clear London Student was seeking the department’s views. The spokesperson was commenting only in an advisory capacity.
